Knowing that you are friends first makes it easier to rely on that person. If you cant trust them, they shouldnt be your friend in the first place. Building trust and respect are very important in a relationship, and when you already have that from the friendship, the relationship will be even stronger.

Are people friends before dating?

A further study carried out by the same professors asked 167 couples how long theyd known one another before becoming romantically involved and whether they were friends first. They found that, on average, the couples had known each other four months before dating. Plus, 40 per cent of them were friends beforehand.
