Question: Where are brothels legal?

Nevada is the only U.S. jurisdiction to allow some legal prostitution. Currently eight counties in Nevada have active brothels (these are all rural counties); as of February 2018, there are 21 brothels in Nevada. Prostitution outside the licensed brothels is illegal throughout Nevada.

Prostitution is legal and regulated in Germany, Switzerland, Greece, Austria, and many other countries in Europe. Many major European cities have red-light districts and regulated brothels that pay taxes and follow certain rules.

In eight European countries (Germany, Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, and Turkey), prostitution is legal and regulated. The degree of enforcement of the anti-prostitution laws varies by country, by region, and by city.

Is sex work legal? In the UK, the exchange of sexual services for money is legal, but a number of activities, including soliciting in a public place, kerb crawling, owning or managing a brothel, pimping and pandering, are considered to be crimes, under the Sexual Offences Act 2003.
