It was not because it did not have the sales and marketing prowess. But it was because they failed to understand customers wants and needs. There was already a platform like Facebook that connected different people. Google+ wanted people to share everything — their emails, tweets, photos, videos, and thoughts.
Why did Google get shut down?
The main reason for the shutdown, according to Google, is the very low usage and lack of consumer engagement. As it turns out, Google also discovered a bug in one of the Google+ People APIs, connected to security flaws.
Google social media failed so far mainly due to the following reasons: Lack of proper team and vision. Late into the market. No innovation.
