Why did they kill MSN Messenger?

It is believed that the Microsoft move to kill MSN Messenger in China (which was launched in 2005) has been prompted by the growing popularity of rival chat service QQ from Tencent, a China-based firm. MSN Messenger was launched by Microsoft to compete with AOLs Aim Service and ICQ.

What happened MSN Messenger?

In 2013, Windows Live Messenger was discontinued and Microsoft began ceasing service to existing clients. The service in China remained active for another 18 months, and ceased operations on October 31, 2014.

Does MSN Messenger still work 2020?

Microsofts MSN Messenger, or Windows Live Messenger as its now known, will be fully retired on October 31st. MSN Messenger started off life as a basic instant messenger without much bloat and just text communications. Microsoft gradually started improving Messenger with calling capabilities for Windows XP users.

Can I still login to MSN Messenger?

Messenger was retired back in April and merged with Skype. Unfortunately there is no way of telling until you do merge it. If you just want to access your mail you can simply log onto http://mail.live.com and use your user name and password.
