Question: What should I put under my turntable?

I use industrial anti-vibration pads under my turntables. They are made by a company called Diversitech and are very inexpensive, and come in different sizes. I use the ones with the blue EVA material in the center.

How do you dampen a record player?

For the braver, DIY-minded among you, try Sorbothane sheets with or without a sticky side. Sorbothane is natural sound deadening substance, providing valuable damping for your turntable. The non-sticky version can be used as a surface for your turntable to rest upon or it can be placed inside a hollow plinth.

How close can speakers be to turntable?

Speakers should be placed so that their initial distance between them is 150cm MINIMUM. Mutual distance is always calculated from the middle of the bass unit on one speaker to the middle of the bass unit on the second speaker.

Where should speakers be placed?

Speakers should be at least 2-3 feet away from the nearest wall (especially if your speaker is in a corner). Many speakers have rear-facing bass ports. Positioning a rear bass port too close to the wall will reflect sound waves, resulting in time smearing.

What is a turntable isolation platform?

As its name suggests, a turntable isolation platform works to isolate the turntable and provide it with great balance. With the special design, an isolation platform will control vibrations that will negatively affect the sound quality and the performance of the turntable system.

How do I stop my record player from skipping when walking?

If its not needle skipping you will hear every step you take as a thumping sound instead. The only remedy that is not cost intensive is placing the turntable on an object that is as heavy as possible which will thus absorb the vibration from the floor when you walk around the room.

Should I angle speakers?

Positioning the speakers at a 60-degree angle gives you the best stereo image of these sounds. Dust off your old protractor and position the speakers 60 degrees apart. It can help to place a small marker at your listening position and work it out from there.

Are rubber turntable mats good?

Rubber mats are said to isolate the record very well from vibration interference, but opinion varies on the pros and cons of this material. It does offer superb grip and durability, with plenty of listeners reporting a deeper, warmer sound. Diversely, some audiophiles feel that rubber over-isolates the record.

What is a turntable plinth?

The plinth of the turntable is the foundation that supports the rest of the components. Its basic function is to isolate the components mechanically from each other, so usually its better if its made out of a heavy material.

How do you fix a wonky turntable?

Re: Turntable wobble Put your hands on opposite sides of the turntable, and, with both hands on the turntable, push down, first on one side and then on the other. If there is looseness or wobble in the bearing, you will feel the up and down motion. It shouldnt take a lot of force to induce the motion.
