Question: Can you have more than one wife in Thailand?

While polygamy has since been abolished, it is still alive in Thailand and, according to some, widely accepted. Such unions are not recognised under Thai law in accordance with the law that states A man or a woman cannot marry each other while one of them has a spouse.

Can you go to jail for having 2 wives?

The short answer is, yes. The Crimes Act 1900 states: “Whosoever, being married, marries another person during the life of the former spouse (including husband or wife), shall be liable to imprisonment for seven years”. Bigamy is not only illegal in New South Wales, but the whole of Australia.

Can a foreigner own a house in Thailand?

Landed Property. Thailand has very well-known laws governing foreign ownership of landed property, laws which essentially forbid titling any land in the name of a foreigner. With very, very few exceptions, it best to accept this as fact: if you are a foreigner, you are not allowed to own land in Thailand.
